Earlier plans for the project showed two options for our above ground facility at Theddlethorpe – one on the former Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal site (Option 1) and one on land nearby (Option 2). Option 2 was located on farmland to the west of The Cut and the former Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal site. Option 1 was always our preferred option, but we needed a second option to provide flexibility.

We can now confirm that Option 2 is no longer needed. We have therefore updated our plans so that we are only seeking permission to use a small area of the former Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal site to locate our above ground facility.

The above ground facility

This would only use a small part of the former Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal site. We have created some computer-generated images of the Theddlethorpe facility to help people understand what it would look like in the context of the surrounding area.

Public Rights of Way

As part of the Environmental Statement submitted in our DCO application, we produced some photomontages of how Option 1 could look from nearby Public Rights of Way. You can find the methodology for these photomontages, and all of our other photomontages here.

We recognise the importance of keeping the local community informed during the construction phase. If we receive development consent, we will put in place a Construction Environmental Management Plan, which will be agreed with the local planning authority. That plan will include a stakeholder communications plan setting out how we will carry out community engagement before and during the construction phase.

We are not planning to close or divert any roads in the Theddlethorpe area to construct the pipeline. We would use trenchless techniques to cross underneath roads.

This is the point where the new onshore Viking CCS Pipeline will connect to the existing offshore LOGGS Pipeline to transport captured carbon to the Viking storage site under the North Sea. The above ground facility will include some buildings, pipework and a vent stack. It will be surrounded by security fencing and have a gated access point from the road.
A 25m vent stack is required for venting off small quantities of carbon dioxide prior to periodic maintenance of the pipeline system. This would take place approximately every two years.
